Dr Paul Klauser is a clinician-scientist in the department of psychiatry at Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), Switzerland. His time is shared between a clinical activity in the service of child and adolescent psychiatry (SUPEA) and a research activity in the center for psychiatric neuroscience (CNP). His expertise is multiple, medical (MD), biological (PhD in neurobiology), neuroimgaging (postdoctoral experience), psychological (specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy) with a strong interest in psychoanalytic metapsychology and mind-body interventions (www.mindfulteen.ch). He strongly believes in the importance of clinician-scientists for the development of CAP. In his view, clinical-scientists are essential to bridge the gap between researchers and clinicians. They not only facilitate the translation of new fundamental discoveries into the clinic (e.g. rapid setting of clinical trials) but also fuel research with hypotheses that are clinically relevant (i.e. meet patients’ needs). He has been the senior advisor for the Research Academy since 2017 and is responsible, together with Dr Alexis Revet, for the organisation of bi-annual meetings. Through the Research Academy, he and Dr Alexis Revet also want to promote dual careers as clinician-scientists in Europe as well as collaborative work through the network of the Research Academy (e.g. Revet et al. 2018, CovCAP).
